A company like Lycos, Google, Yahoo required a huge teams. Do you have any idea about this pos? : software engineer, system analyst, UI Designer, Web developer, PR manager, network administrator etc? There are different people performing different tasks. So you need a better financeial planning to run the business, and their business is talk about billion of dolllar, not hundreds of dollar. And the web server is not like ours, just less than a few hundred yearly, and yet is called as "Shared hosting". So please go and do some research before you comment it.
