Lycos shutting down part of their services – Lycos关闭部分的服务
After Lycos-Europe are closing down last year on Nov, it seems like Lycos is shutting down more services, recently they are shutting their email services and website creation and hosting service. For details, read here from Techcrunch
在这个全球经济不景气的时期写这类网络公司面临关闭的新闻，会不会让人觉得消极呢？自去年11月Lycos-Europe宣布关闭后，据国外媒体报道，面临困难的互联网公司Lycos日前宣布将关闭其电子邮件服务，以及网站创建和寄存服务Tripod。
Lycos以电邮的方式通知所有的用户，内容大概是如此，“我们遗憾地通知你，我们的母公司已经决定停止所有不盈利的服务：电子邮件服务，以及网站创建和寄存服务Tripod. 这两项服务将于2009年2月15日关闭。我们会寻求通过其它服务提供商为您提供服务的解决方案…..” 虽然这样，但用户需要等2月15日后才知道结果，所有数据都将被删除，而且在最后还加一句好像是鼓励你还是尽快自行找其它服务商的词句。
* Tripod问世时间为1992年，1998年被Lycos以5800万美元收购
想当年Lycos的名气并不小，但因着各个竞争对手的激烈竞争下，关闭或转型也是预料中事。
大家都知道，网络公司也就等于泡沫公司，我也曾经历这种经验(公司一个星期关闭, 各国加起来200多个员工突然丢掉饭碗), 所谓天下没有永远的铁饭碗, 外表看起来稳定的公司, 有时内部可能问题一罗罗, 就拿大家把它当作梦想的Google网络公司, 你可知道那些离开Google的人怎么说吗? 读这里.

About Lycos:
Lycos began as a search engine out of Carnegie Mellon University in 1994. It went public in 1996 but was bought by Terra Networks in 2000 for $5.4 billion at the height of the dot-com bubble. In 2004 it was sold off to South Korean Daum Communications for a mere $95.4 million. Lycos currently focuses on building communities around broadband media. details here

真不知道如何说? 也觉得”搞不懂” … 如果真的公司不要请人了. 可以裁呀~ 怎么说连网站也得关了呢? ??
没有赚钱，还要补贴开销，你说不关门裁员行得通吗？
i think Lycos just changing their business direction, not completely close down.
开网站, 不是说还 domain / server 就好了啊… 员工是about website ‘updating’ 的问题而已… 可能会比较慢. but at least 网站还是可以运转的叻—-

Rambo, running a website not just domain name and web hosting, that one is only for “normal or small business model” website, running a website like Lycos are required more works to do, they got different teams to handling different jobs and tasks, is not just one designer, one programmer, or one accountant and one marketing manager to run the business.
A company like Lycos, Google, Yahoo required a huge teams. Do you have any idea about this pos? : software engineer, system analyst, UI Designer, Web developer, PR manager, network administrator etc? There are different people performing different tasks. So you need a better financeial planning to run the business, and their business is talk about billion of dolllar, not hundreds of dollar.
And the web server is not like ours, just less than a few hundred yearly, and yet is called as “Shared hosting”. So please go and do some research before you comment it.
