Pirated games, clothes, software, DVD, Blu-ray, all you can find in Malaysia

I’m still remember creative director from my previous company taught me and gave me a good mindset that shouldn’t use a pirated software especially if you are using it for business purpose, and he decided to buy the original when he need to use it, that’s really show me a good example and influence my mindset.

In any states of Malaysia, you can easily find a pirated games, software, movie, music CD/DVD/Blu-ray etc from a retails shop or even a shopping mall….

The volume is really scary, is like selling clothes, you can choose what you want.

Even the Windows 7 is available now, before the official release. and iPhone/iPod touch app also available…
The problem is, if you choose to use pirated, and others also do the same thing, then who are going to spend time to develop it in the future since there is no profit to develop a single piece of software? How those software developers going to survive in the future?

Are this going to be one of our CULTURE in our country?
A pirated DVD heaven?
That’s how they called us?

Sometime i really worried for our next generation, how they going to survive if the world getting worst and worst like this? However, nothing going to change after i posted this topic. People will just ignore and give excuses for their own good. And it is not only asian will do this, even part of the western people are start using pirated stuff now a day.

How do you feel if one day you noticed your stuff being pirated and selling cheap but you can’t even get a single cent? I suddenly seriously think about this today.

I don’t know about you, but i’m going to set a good example to my children and give them a good mindset like how my creative director did. I know it is not going to change anything, but at least to my children, as if you possible to influence one person with a positive mindset, that’s better than doing nothing.

Hen, I totally agree that software for commercial usage should be licensed copy, as companies use them to generate profit..

But as for individual usage, most of the software are overpriced, as they are mostly used for personal, non profit purposes. Imagine the difference of the cost when one is earning USD vs MYR. I guess that is one of the reason why Open source society grow rapidly but of course they need time to mature.

    IMHO.

Yes i agreed what you said and i understand there are currency different, as we have to pay more to purchase a single license, example the Adoble product, even it is selling cheap in US, but still consider high in Malaysia.

Using it for personal with non profit purposes, i’m fine with it, but to use it for business purpose, it should be considered as the expenses included in your business, there should be something we have to pay. So the thing we do shouldn’t be so cheap that offered to the market.

For example, a web design firm shouldn’t offered a web project which is less than RM2000, unless it is not involved to use those professional software to develop and design it. Otherwise, it is so unprofessional to use commercial software for business and yet it is pirated version.

hmmm… pretty idealistic to avoid piracy of software or trademarks all together. It is rather ironic that I got most of my MS skills using and installing pirate copy of the software. Currently I start using OpenSource and use license software on office computers only. Most important to combat piracy is use OpenSource and make it readily available in schools and public computers.

Ya, opensource, that’s what I’m trying to switch too, there are lots of opensource software which is useful and almost can replace those professional software, although it is not perfect yet but it will be one of the option for us to stop using pirated software.

Me too, most of MS skills is from pirate copy of the software, :)
