Control your Time Machine backup schedule
The good of Time Machine
Time Machine in OSX Leopard is one of my favorite features that i can’t live without it. How many time i lost my files or i replace my files with wrong version etc. Time Machine just like my super hero, save my day and help me recover my file anytime, as long there is existing backup in my external hard disk.
The bad
But after sometime, you may find the “hourly” backup of Time Machine seems like “not so friendly”, because it seems like fill-up your hard disk to the maximum storage for all your backup, when maximum storage are reach, it will prompt you to remove some old archive so it can keep doing a new backup.
For some user, you may not want to remove your old backup say 2 months ago. But if you are using 200GB external hard disk to store your back up, and your current hard disk usage are more than 100GB, i believe you should not able to keep more than 2 months old backup in your time machine backup hard disk. Since by default it will only keep daily backup for the past month, and hourly backup for the past 24 hours.
But what if i want to keep my 2 months old backup? I want to control the time machine backup schedule and setting? Where can change that? Well, there are some command allow you to change the Time machine setting via Terminal by some command line, but i don’t think that is suitable for end-user or someone who are not familiar with command line.
Solution
Just download this free App called “TimeMachineEditor” and it will allow you to fully control your time machine backup schedule, instead of using the default setting:

You can change the setting according to your own preference, for me, i prefer daily backup only, so i just setup daily back on midnight 12am.

Work smartly, backup your stuff all the time, enjoy!
